The Beauty of Geek

Ain't it funny how things turn around?

The historically unpopular geek style is now the look that everyone wants to rock. Stylish men and women everywhere are putting aside their fancy designer glasses in favour of the once uncool nerdy spectacles. They're updating in their glamorous wardrobes to include geek-inspired items like bow ties, striped cardigans and sweater vests.

I really don't like assigning titles to people, but many geeks actually don't mind being called this and some see it as a great thing that should be fully embraced. Really, what's so wrong with wanting to learn more about stuff like technology and sciences and finding sci-fi films and comics entertaining? What makes the things that geeks like any less interesting or socially acceptable than the things that the so-called cool people like?

I think it's fantastic that there are some people in this world that are more concerned about advancing their knowledge and skills in areas that interest them rather than spending every waking moment of their lives trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd.

Society changes its mind all the time so don't waste your time trying to conform.

So are you ready to show your love for all things geek? Check out these really cool items below.

Stud obsession

There's something so edgy and sexy about studded clothing and accessories that I find very irresistible. The decorative hardware toughens up any outfit and you don't have to be a biker or punk to rock out this look with confidence. This is a bold look so, as is the case with many trends, the trick to effortlessly incorporating it into your style is to do it in moderation.

One celebrity devotee of this look is Rihanna who is often seen wearing numerous stylish articles such as the studded bag, skirt and bracelets in the photos below.

A few of my favourite (and currently unattainable) studded items are these Christian Louboutin 'Ariella' boots, Burberry 'Warrior' bag and Carrie's belt from the Sex and the City movie.

Fashion Inspiration - Brilliant Accents

I love bright colour and and am always inspired by it, but you don't have to be covered from head to toe in it to make a statement. One of my current trend obsessions is the combination of splashes of lively, bright colours with neutral colours.

For example, check out these neon accented looks from the S/S08 runways of Costume National, Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui and Jil Sander.

On the streets, intense colour highlights on clothing and accessories help these girls stand out from the crowd. The mostly muted colours of their outfits help to balance out the blindingly bright colours for a great mix of playfulness and sophistication.

Each of these fabulous ladies below incorprates this look to suit their personal style. Laia rocks out her neon green miniskirt (
Geometric Sleep), Silje looks lovely in her turquoise blue jacket (Silje's Fashion), The Seeker brightens up with vivid red shoes (Searching the Inner Me) and Nourahshammari's yellow clutch adds a pop of colour to her simple and chic casual outfit (Nourahshammari's Chic Blog).

Some of you might remember, I even tried this look myself a little while ago with a dark patterned wrap blouse over a bright yellow dress and black accessories.

If small doses of bright colour is what you're looking for, check out these items below.

Celebrity Style for less - Diane Kruger

I'm loving Diane Kruger's style more and more everytime I see her. The actress once again shows us why she's one of Hollywood's most fashionable starlets in this unexpected yet ridiculously cool ensemble. She wore this great outfit to the Chanel Cruise 2009 collection show in Miami on May 15.

Diane paired a satin mini, straw hat, tan sandals and silver accessories together for a fabulous relaxed yet glam look. She wore it with an easy confidence that is needed to pull off such an outfit.

Cool Vintage Finds - Feeling blue?

The theme for today's Cool Vintage Finds is one of my favourite colours, blue. I remember when I was a lot younger, much like Picasso, I went through a Blue Period; I was practically obsessed with blue. Around the age of four, I loved to play with my colouring books and box of crayons and the first colour that I always reached for was Cerulean.

When I was seven, I had this cute little blue striped shirt that I would always want to wear with everything, and I mean everything. My mother and I often had little arguments with her trying to convince me that blue did not go well with every colour. Luckily, I grew out of that phase but I still have a soft spot for this colour.

Here are three great vintage items that'll have you singing the blues in no time.
