Grey's Desirability

As far as wardrobe staples go, I've covered both black and white. Now it's time to shine the fashion spotlight on the gorgeous shades of grey in between.

This moody neutral colour is far from dull this season as it's showing up in many shades on tons of trendy clothing styles.

Even though my love for grey may not be as extreme as this, I'm still craving a few grey items right now - specifically boots and bags - to add to my wardrobe.

Grey is powerful enough to stand on its own but I think it looks even better when it's paired with brighter colours like pink, purple or yellow.

Below are some chic grey clothing and accessories for your consideration.

Fashion Inspiration - Pure Plaidness

Plaid is yet another trend to be resurrected this fall season and it's back in a big way. Generally associated with the rebellious grunge era in the '90s or traditional Scottish clothing, plaid is making a break from these fashion stereotypes to become a chic and trendy pattern anyone can wear.

This striking cross-hatched pattern is versatile as it can made even more dynamic by using bold hues and dramatic tonal contrasts or toned down with subtle, sophisticated colours. Depending on the look of the item, plaid may propose a diverse array of style options including youthful, classic, quirky, elegant, edgy or casual.

Models strutted down the Fall 2008 runways of Badgley Mischka, House of Holland, D&G and Sass & Bide clad in stylish, attention-grabbing plaid garments.

Jessica Szohr of Gossip Girl looked cool and casual in a plaid button-down at a Dazed and Confused magazine party last week while her co-star Taylor Momsen was dressed in a cute plaid dress on the set of their show. Diane Kruger wore a plaid tie-neck blouse to Tommy Hilfiger's Spring 2009 show and Rihanna wore a plaid ruffle front top with a white vest while out shopping with UK singer Duffy.

Some of the greatest fashion inspirations come from real people who are photographed by various street style blogs around the world. The great thing about this pattern is that it's gender-neutral so both girls and guys can work their favourite plaid pieces with style and confidence.

Everybody gettin' high-waisted

It seems as though the high waist trend has been around forever, but it's obviously not going anywhere anytime soon either. High waisted pants and skirts are still appearing on the bodies of women everywhere who desire to hide their torsos and make their legs appear miles longer than they really are.

Evidence of the immense popularity of the high waist look is especially apparent on Copenhagen Street Style where these four ladies below, as well as others, are wearing high waisted outfits in posts on the front page alone.

Still, I always find it so fascinating how one look or trend can be interpreted in totally different ways. I think the fact that there are many high waisted styles to choose from is what has, thus far, prevented this trend from going stale.

Lauren Conrad, Duffy, Katie Holmes and Nicole Richie all wear different styles of high-waisted bottoms that reflect their individual tastes and personalities.

If you're still feeling this trend as well, here is a variety of high waisted pant and skirt styles that may appeal to you.

Celebrity Style for Less - Kristen Bell

On the red carpet of the 2008 Teen Choice Awards on August 4, Kristen Bell stood out from the rest of the dress-wearing pack by opting to wear separates.

The former Veronica Mars star worked the neutral and neon trend and looked fabulously fresh in a blousy nude top and a pink high waisted skirt by Jenni Kayne.

The neutrality of the blouse helps to play up the pretty pink of her skirt, her long multi-coloured necklace and dark clutch break up tonal monotony in the outfit and her nude heels help to visually lengthen her legs.

Lighten up, Denim!

Another '80s/'90s trend to make a comeback this summer is light wash denim. While dark denim is classic and universally more flattering, light denim is appealing because it has a fresh and casual look which is a great mix for summer. It may not be for everyone but if you like it and can pull it off, by all means, go for it!

Pictured below are light denim looks that were present on the S/S08 runways of Alexander Wang and Christopher Kane and also on the streets of London and New York.

If you like this trend, check out the light denim pieces that I found below.
