Guest Blogger Feature - '5 under $50 for Spring' by Couture Carrie

Since early 2008, ultra-fabulous fashion blogger, Couture Carrie has been thrilling us with her daily trend reports and abundant selections of inspirational photos from the runways as well as online retail stores. Now, here to help us get ready for Spring, CC has listed below her top five fashion picks under $50 for the season.

Thanks to Danz for being a blogging inspiration and inviting CC as the first Guest Star in this series of posts!

For Spring, darlings, CC suggests whimsy, color, retro glamour, and an adventurous spirit. Here are CC's five picks for fab fashions under $50:

1.

American Apparel Unisex Oversized See Thru T Shirt
Price: US$32.00

CC loves this versatile piece as a belted tunic, a swingy dress (just layer it over an AA tube dress, and be sure to roll up the sleeves to show off those shoulders), or as a chic beach cover-up. Get it in basic black or experiment with some of the 80s-throwback brights that designers are championing for Spring!

2.

Victoria's Secret Shadow Dot Bikini
Price: US$37.00

CC absolutely adores VS bikinis, and the price is right on this one; not to mention that polka dots are the ultimate in retro chic for Spring. Just witness all the fab dotted swimsuits at Michael Kors!

3.

Alexander McQueen for Target Tiger Print Shift Dress
Price: US$44.99

The pieces in McQueen's collection for Target are sure to be collector's items, and CC loves this one for its unique design - remember that patterned dresses are hot for Spring - and its flirty length. Accessorize with last year's gladiators or #5 below!

4.

Delia's Morgan Low-Rise Skinny Jean
Price: US$49.50

CC loves the acidwash and shredded denim trends, but how about something a little cheerier for the warmer weather? Coral and lemon yellow are big this season, and these skinnies are just so fun!

5.

Forever 21 Fringe Open Toe Boots
Price: US$34.80

Leave it to Forever 21 to knock off the season's hottest trends - the open toed bootie and the fringed sandal. This hybrid is the perfect transitional pair to take you from late winter through Spring. Show off those mile long legs by donning these booties with a micro mini or some of Spring's fabulous Alexander Wang-inspired rolled shorts!

Be sure to tune in to Couture Carrie beginning on Monday for CC's ABCs of Spring.

xoxox,

CC

The Beauty of Geek

Ain't it funny how things turn around?

The historically unpopular geek style is now the look that everyone wants to rock. Stylish men and women everywhere are putting aside their fancy designer glasses in favour of the once uncool nerdy spectacles. They're updating in their glamorous wardrobes to include geek-inspired items like bow ties, striped cardigans and sweater vests.

I really don't like assigning titles to people, but many geeks actually don't mind being called this and some see it as a great thing that should be fully embraced. Really, what's so wrong with wanting to learn more about stuff like technology and sciences and finding sci-fi films and comics entertaining? What makes the things that geeks like any less interesting or socially acceptable than the things that the so-called cool people like?

I think it's fantastic that there are some people in this world that are more concerned about advancing their knowledge and skills in areas that interest them rather than spending every waking moment of their lives trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd.

Society changes its mind all the time so don't waste your time trying to conform.

So are you ready to show your love for all things geek? Check out these really cool items below.

As chic as a peacock

Hey everyone,

First I want to apologize for being absent for so long. I haven't been feeling well this past week so I decided to take a break for a little while. I'm feeling better now so I'll try to get back to posting regularly.

The theme for today's post is the peacock which is one of my favourite animals. I remember visiting to the zoo when I was much younger and there were so many peacock feathers scattered all over the grounds because the birds were allowed to roam freely. I obviously gathered as many as I could, took them home and enjoyed playing many games of "Dress-up" with them.

I still love peacock feathers today and although they're not as abundant as before, I do love using them for various projects when I get my hands on them. The last time I got peacock feathers, I used them to make a haircomb for a friend.

Now what would this post be without a little info on the beautiful bird it's based on?

The term peafowl can refer to the two species of bird in the genus
Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae. These two species are the Indian Peafowl (shown below) and the Green Peafowl.

A male Peafowl is known as a peacock and the female is called a peahen. The Indian Peacock has iridescent blue-green or green coloured plumage and the Green Peacock has green and gold plumage and the wings are black with a sheen of blue. Both species have a crest atop the head.

The extravagant "tail" or "train" of the male peacock is the feature for which these birds are best known and it is proudly displayed when courting females (as seen in the photo above). This is often mistaken for tail quill feathers when it is, in fact, highly elongated upper tail coverts. The train feathers have a series of "eyes" that are best seen when the tail is fanned.

Feathers from the train have long been considered a sign of beauty and knowledge because they are attractive and because they are in the form of an eye.

Peacock feathers or inspired motifs have a unique appearance that when used on clothing and accessories often leads to gorgeous results.

Here are a few lovely items with a peacock theme:
