2011 Ultraviolet Calendar Is Truly Far Out. (Sneak Peek Of The 2012 Calendar Cover, Too)

Hey Lava Lamp lovers, Abrams has come out with a calendar for 2011 that is truly far out. The Ultraviolet 2011 Wall Calendar: 13 Posters That Glow in Blacklight features 13 vintage ultraviolet black light posters from the 60s and 70s from the collection of Dan Donahue.

Printed with fluorescent inks, the 28 page calendar measures 14.5 x 10.4 x 0.2 inches

Dan Donahue runs an artist-for-artists design group called Groop and he has given us a sneak peek at next year's 2012 black light calendar cover:

A previously published book, Ultraviolet: 69 Classic Blacklight Posters from the Aquarian Age and Beyond featured 69 posters from his extensive collection.

Vintage Globes Get Fun Face Lifts By Wendy Gold

I have already written about Wendy Gold's decoupage work, specifically her Art de Toilette toilet seats and bathroom scales. Now, the designer has moved out of the bathroom and into the world of globes. I can't tell you how thrilling a find this was for me personally, since I actually collect old vintage metal globes myself.

The "Imagine Nation" globes are handmade using vintage globes whose geography is no longer accurate. Wendy finds, cuts and creates the art that she then decoupages onto the old globes. From Superheros to Rock and Roll, each is one of a kind. She also takes on commissions. The globes vary in size from the small novelty bank globes to the larger traditional 30" diameter globes. Prices range from $99-$300.

BoomCases Will Have You Rocking Retro-Style.

Dominic, aka Mr. SiMo, is a self-proclaimed "audio-nut" who had the interesting idea to turn vintage hard-sided suitcases into self-powered boom boxes, making music portable in a retro fashion. He takes wood and leather vintage suitcases (which he prefers to thin or plastic cases because the acoustic sound quality is better) and adds speakers and more.

Prices Start at $250 for a plug-in only case and at $300 for a battery/plug-in case.

Options include:
•iPod – iPhone/USB Charger: $15
•Double Battery Capacity: $45
•Solar Power Charger: $65
•Wireless Audio Playback: $100 (must have Bluetooth compatible device)

The Self Powered, Portable Suitcase Stereo system works with your iPod/iPhone or any device with a headphone jack. The cases will last several hours on a single charge (the charger is built in). In addition to running on batteries, The BoomCase can also be plugged in when the party goes inside. To save on weight, you can opt for a plug-in only version.

Many of the BoomCases shown in this post have already been sold, but Mr. SiMo has a slew of vintage hard sided luggage in various shapes, sizes and colors, just waiting to be turned into BoomCases for you.

special shout out to Erica Mayer for turning me onto these!
