Ten Things (and more)

It's about time I actually do at least one of the tags I've been given (my apologies for the ones I've had to skip). This one was given to me by Tamia of The Style Sample.

So, in no particular order, here are:

TEN THINGS I LOVE

Sleep

Bargain hunting

The thrill of a new romantic interest (I haven't had one of these in quite a while...hmm...I miss it)

Being in the company of people who have a great sense of humour.

Creativity in any form

God, my family, friends

Cute, funny and slightly awkward guys (e.g. Michael Cera)

When inspiration strikes at the most unexpected times.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S (Even though I've watched all ten seasons, I can always rely on this show to make me laugh until my sides split.

People who are genuine and aren't afraid to do their own thing.

TEN THINGS I LOATHE

Seeing people spit...ugh, so gross....

Having to catch two buses to school in the merciless midday sun - a journey which also includes a fair amount of walking from one bus station to the next. Luckily I don't have to do this anymore :)

Arrogance as well as self-pity.

When guys say words like "nipple" or "giggle". It makes me cringe for some reason.

When applications 'quit unexpectedly' before I have the chance to save any work.

Mushy, affectionate nicknames that some couples use like 'baby', 'boo' or...*gasp*...'pumpkin'. I especially hate it when guys attempt to call me nicknames that so obviously do not suit me. I am 5' 10" and a guy once referred to me as 'shorty'. Cue exasperated sigh and dramatic eye roll.

Seeing women being trashy and throwing away their dignity just for a man's attention.

Cigarette smoke.

Alcohol.

Slugs, frogs, roaches and any other creature you'd have to call the Orkin Man for.

RANDOM FACTS

Once, when I was about five years old, I thought it would be a good idea to see what Toilet Bowl Cleaner felt like on my skin. Bad idea.

I love a good chick-lit read. The last one I read was Lip Kisses by Stella Chaplin. Hilarious.

I have a small collection of money from different countries in the world that I got from by father when he used to go on business trips. I have only actually been to two of these countries in my life (Trinidad and England) but I hope to change this in the future.

I have a fear of elevators that stems from watching some show when I was very young where an elevator cord snapped and plummeted its occupants several stories to their deaths. Apparently I never got over it.

I do not own a cell phone or a watch at this point in time.

I cannot stand the smell or taste of peanuts. Another childhood trauma that involves a bad jar of oily, chunky peanut butter and the regurgitation of the contents of aforementioned jar. Man, I have a lot of unresolved issues.

This is not a tag but I thought I'd share a few of the many beautiful songs I can never get enough of:

Worry about you by Ivy

Sunday by Sia

Sophia by Nerina Pallot

Songs that we sing by Charlotte Gainsbourg

Come here boy by Imogen Heap

Three tags and a new nail colour

I have a really bad habit of procrastinating when it comes to doing tags so I decided to do all the tags I've been given, new and overdue, in this one post. Here goes:

Page 123 Tag

This tag was given to me by the awesome lady, enc of Observation Mode quite a while ago (sorry I took so long!).

Rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3.Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

Ok, so I haven't been doing much reading lately so I had to dig one out of my...ah...extensive collection haha. The name of the book is The Chrysalids by John Wyndham:

I told Petra in words:

'Get dressed as fast as you can. Overalls. And be very quiet.'

Very likely she had not understood the thought-shapes in detail, but she had caught their urgency. She simply nodded, and slipped back into the dark passage.

Book outline: Thousands of years after our time, the world faced something known as Tribulation, when civilization was almost completely wiped out and had to be started over, with new rules and laws. Humans beings born as “deviants”, missing an attribute that normal humans would have, is considered a blasphemy towards God.

David, a young man whose father is in charge of seeking out deviants in his community, discovered that he, along with a few other young adults, can communicate to one another through their minds and what they call “thought shapes”. For a long while they’ve hidden their secret talents, but as rules get tighter and tighter they know it’s only a matter of time until they’re discovered. (Source)

Ok, so I'm tagging anyone who wants to do this tag!

This tag was given to me by the fabulous Queen B of I Never Repeat Gossip...So Listen Carefully.

a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
b. Using only the first page, pick an image.

9.What you want to be when you grow up?

Tagged - Seven Songs for Spring

I was tagged by Sharon Rose and Nay'chelle to list the seven songs I'm really feeling right now.

The rules:
“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”

Ok, so here are my song choices for Spring/Summer:

Do It by Nelly Furtado (2008)
I miss the old Nelly from her "I'm like a Bird" days and I'm starting to tire of Timbaland's generic pop beats, but I really like this song. It's a cool, fun song and Nelly's voice sounds really good here .

I Know by Jay-Z ft. Pharrell (2008)
Great hip-hop song, the Neptunes really did an excellent job on the production. I love the song and I also really love the video starring Ms. Zoe Kravitz.

Inside and Out by Feist (2005)
Fantastic remake of the original Bee Gees 1979 hit 'Love you inside and out'. Feist has smooth and beautiful vocals that suits this song perfectly.

Wow by Kylie Minogue (2008)
I've been a fan of Kylie Minogue's music since her album 'Fever' in 2001 and this song is no different. Her songs always make me want to get up and dance (or sit and sing really loudly)!

American Boy by Estelle ft. Kanye West (2008)
Fabulously funky song to sing and dance along to. Estelle is a fantastic singer and Kanye is as cool as ever on this track.

Les Fleurs by 4Hero featuring Carina Andersson (2001)
I first heard this song on a Bailey's commercial called “Zero Gravity Bar” back in 2004 and I just couldn't get it out of my head. It was originally done by Minnie Riperton in 1971 and 4Hero did the cover in 2001. This is a really beautiful and uplifting song, perfect for any season!

Hide Away by Tessanne Chin (?)
This is one of the best reggae/rock fusions I've ever heard and the singer's voice is so beautiful and powerful!

I'm now going to tag Be Stylin', I <333>, The Ongoing Project, The Wandering Alchemist, Searching the Inner Me..., Closet Bug, Meet the Freak.

Obviously there are no obligations to do this tag if you've done it before or you just don't want to :)

Tagged x 2

Quite a while ago, two wonderful ladies Times of Glory and Paris in Luella Land, both gave me this particular tag and I'm only now doing it. Yes, I know, I'm hanging my head in shame.

Rules
–Post rules at beginning of the post
–Answer all the questions
–Tag 6 people & go to their blog & leave a comment to inform them that they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1) What were you doing 10 years ago?

Well 10 years ago, I was 10 years old so I guess I was just being a happy child whose only cares included learning the multiplication tables and getting a Barbie for my birthday.

2) What are 5 things on your to-do list today?

i) Clean around the house
ii) Wash my hair
iii) Research for the next blog post
iv) Watch the Golden Girls on youtube
v) Work on some applications for a summer job

3) Snacks you enjoy

Ice cream, chocolate, chips (quite possibly all flavours), cheesecake (yummmm!) and lots more. The title of this question really should be 'Snacks you enjoy...a little too much.'

4) Places you have lived

Let's see...um...Barbados... and...no, that's it. I'm hoping that will change some time in the near future though.

5) Things you would do if you were a billionaire

i) I've never really thought about being a billionaire but I think one of the first things I would do is buy my mother a house, she deserves it.

ii) I'd like to travel the world (although that might be a problem if I go by plane, I'd probably be hyperventilating the whole way!)

iii) At the risk of sounding like a beauty pageant contestant, I'd also donate some of my fortune to charities and also provide funding for less fortunate kids to pursue their dreams. Oh, and promote World Peace.

iv) I'd also open a clothing store or start a magazine or fashion line. Being a billionaire would probably make those jobs...a little easier.

6) People you want to know more about

Anyone I find interesting.

I'm now passing this tagging honour on to:

CoutureCarrie, It's her Factory, Knight Cat, Tres Fly, The Tea Drinking English Rose and Fa'shoe'nista.

D’oh! I’ve been tagged…

This tagging honour has been bestowed upon me by the lovely and stylish Portia of Tight Tweeds and Secret Needs.

The rules to this are:

* Link the person who tagged you
* Mention the rules in your blog
* Tell about six unspectacular quirks of yours
* Tag six following bloggers by linking them

* Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

Unspectacular quirks...sounds easy enough. Here goes.

1. I have the tendency (or uncontrollable habit) of categorizing candy such as Skittles and M&Ms by colour before I eat them. Also, when I get a pack of the Tropical flavoured skittles, I pick out all citrus flavoured ones and eat the rest which only amount to 10 or so in the end.

2. I am terrified of planes, whether I’m in them or they’re flying over my house. I cannot sleep on a plane flight and if there’s a lot of turbulence, I start to freak out. I also go into a panic when I think a plane sounds too close to the ground. Seriously, when I someone going to invent a teleportation device? There has to be a way of getting to the destination without the journey…

3. I sleep very strongly and I tend to have very weird dreams which can sometimes involve celebrities, cartoon characters and aliens, separately or all at once. I had a dream one time about being tortured and killed by a sadistic version of Mary (you know, the one that had the little lamb that used to follow her around); that was very odd.

4. Although I’m really not flexible in other parts of my body, I have the ability to bend my left arm (only the left!) around and lay my palm flat on my upper back. I don’t think this trick will get me into the circus anytime soon but people are usually freaked out when I do it. I also use it to pick up unsuspecting guys and make them do my evil bidding.

5. This one might piss some people off, but I’ll tell ya anyway hehe. Although I live in on an island with great beaches that are easily accessible, I rarely go. My problem is that I often lose track of time and don’t want to leave and then I end up getting sunburnt quite badly even though I wear sunscreen. Also, I hate having to wash sand out of my hair.

6. Despite being 5’ 11” and well…an actual human being, I can do a mean impersonation of Edna Mode, the diminuitive fashion designer from The Incredibles.

By the power vested in me, I hereby tag
KiraFashion, O.M.O Writes, SharonRose: Vintage, Fashion, Me, Fashionaddict, The lil midget talks and Imelda.

If you’ve been tagged before, tough luck, do it again! Haha, just kidding.
